OUR STORY

Esculent Eats is deeply rooted in a rich culinary heritage, inspired by my grandmother, fondly known as IYANIWÚRÀ, who ran a successful restaurant in Ibadan, Nigeria. My childhood was filled with cherished moments of helping my mom in the kitchen, baking pastries, and decorating cakes, which ignited my passion for food. This deep-seated love for cooking led to the creation of Esculent Eats.

What began as a food blog in December 2020 swiftly evolved into a food delivery business by March 2022. In January 2023, we proudly introduced a dessert category, becoming the first West African Dessert company in the USA. By September 2024, we launched our meal subscription plan, establishing ourselves as the first African meal subscription service business in the country. Our commitment to quality and innovation was further recognized in May 2024 when we won our first award, sponsored by MidWest Dairy in collaboration with The Hatchery, for our exceptional pastries and desserts.

MEET THE FOUNDER

  • JOANNA | CEO & FOUNDER

As a Nigerian immigrant new to the U.S, one of the major culture shocks I experienced is the limited availability of authentic African cuisine. This gap in the market coupled with the challenge to find authentic African food inspired me to share the rich flavors of my homeland with a broader audience.

My goal is to make authentic African meals easily accessible, affordable, and enjoyable for individuals in the diaspora. I aim to preserve the rich flavors of our cuisine while continuing my family’s legacy from Nigeria to the U.S. and, eventually, to the global marketplace.
